Harleston is an ancient market town situated in the Waveney Valley. Old coaching inns remain as a legacy from the days when Harleston was on the main coaching route from London to Great Yarmouth and the town was an important trading centre.

Harleston remains a vibrant, bustling market town and was of shops and eating places. Harleston has previously been voted Norfolk’s town of the year due to its excellent array of individual, speciality shops and eating places on offer – a great meeting place.

The total population of Harleston and the neighbouring Redenhall barely passes 4,000 but despite its reduced size the town holds an enviable reputation for the wide variety of goods which are sold here.

Every year the Harleston and Waveney Festival is held in and around the Town, giving musicians of all levels a chance to perform on stage, and includes a variety of other cultural activities.
